Currently, I use high dose Resveratrol, Omega 3s, and Curcumin as the core of my anti-aging protocol. This is a skimpy, but inexpensive supplement list. I keep my supplement list small and inexpensive so that I can afford to take these supplements in the VERY long haul (e.g. I have been taking Resveratrol since about 2005).
I recently read an article that has caused me to revise my supplement schedule.
I am about to order a supplement called "Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide," or NAD+. it "is a key cellular factor for intermediary metabolism. Originally defined as a molecular fraction (“cozymase”) that accelerated fermentation in yeast extracts, its chemical structure was resolved as a nucleotide sugar phosphate. The nicotinamide portion of NAD+ is the site of reduction-oxidation (redox) reactions, and its reduced form (NADH) serves as a key energy-transfer intermediate between different metabolic pathways"*
The recent article I read was about a startling discovery regarding reversing aging in mice. This was rreported in many locations, but this is from "Science Alert":
"They've shown that by giving a particular compound to older mice, they can activate the DNA repair process and not only protect against future damage, but repair the existing effects of ageing. And they're ready to start testing in humans within six months."
That "particular compound" is NAD+.
Life Extension has been talking about this since about 2016, but I have only now decided that NAD+ has the three criteria that I desire most in an anti-aging supplement: 1) It has been clinically proven to slow aging 2) It has many beneficial broadband affects like anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, etc, and 3) It is inexpensive.
LEF has a preparation called "Optimized Resveratrol with Nicotinamide Riboside" that I will start buying in bulk to replace my normal Resveratrol supplementation.
it contains:
"NIAGEN®, a novel nutrient shown to support mitochondrial health and promote longevity pathways. This formula provides 100 mg of NIAGEN® nicotinamide riboside—an amount equivalent to almost 667 cups of milk. Optimized Resveratrol with Nicotinamide Riboside also contains specific compounds in berries, such as pterostilbene and fisetin, which researchers say work in synergy with resveratrol to "turn on" the body's own longevity genes."
I am also soon, going to look into AMPK activators. They are supposed to be anti-aging and promote fat metabolism,
I'll let you know how it works in a couple of decades. ;-)
